John Lewis Beauty Event: What I Bought (Chanel, Clinique and YSL) and What I Received In My Goody Bags!

Hey everyone,

About a month ago, I went to my third John Lewis beauty event, tickets were £5 and with that ticket, you were entitle to a free goody bag. Then the £5 you spent on a ticket was redeemable against anything purchased on the night. You fill out your details on the ticket and hand it back when you purchase something and you get entered into a prize draw. I actually ended up with three goody bags because I bought three tickets, one for me, one for my Mum and one for my Fiance (for any face washes or anything he might have wanted), neither of them wanted anything, so I ended up buying products from three different counters for myself and getting three goody bags all to myself! :)

I have posted about the previous beauty events I have attended at John Lewis and you can find them here and here!

Here's what I got this time round:

DSCF9254DSCF9256

First I went to the YSL counter to repurchase my favourite mascara, Volume Effet Faux Cils. I am on my third tube of this now and I still feel like I will never buy another mascara! It is expensive at £24.50 a tube, but it lasts me at least six months which is about five months longer than regular mascaras last me before they dry up! You can see my review on it here, this was one of my very first posts, so its pretty awful and very brief but the pictures are very clear on how amazing this mascara is! :)

This mascara is perfect at separating the lashes, never clumps and I just can’t get over how much it lengthens my lashes, in only a few strokes and I only ever apply just one coat!

DSCF9252

I asked for a sample of their new ‘Top Secrets All in One BB Creme’ in ‘Light’ and also their new CC cream ‘CC Creme Colour Corrector’ in the shade ‘Lavender’.  I’ll have to let you know how I get on with these! They are both hugely generous samples and will last me plenty of applications :)

Lastly, here are the contents of the goody bag that I received with my YSL purchase:

- Givenchy Ange Ou Demon Le Secret Eau De Parfum 1ml x3
- Steam Cream 3ml x2
- Philosophy 3-in-1 Purity Cleanser for Face and Eyes 6ml
- Philosophy Hope in a Jar Moisturiser 2ml x2
- Philosophy Hope in a Jar Night Moisturiser 2ml
- Ren Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask 5ml
- Acqua Di Parma Magnolia Nobile Eau De Parfum 1.5ml
- Floris London Cefiro Eau De Toilette 2ml
- Philosophy Microdelivery Exfoliating Facial Wash 6ml
- Molton Brown Vitalising Vitamin A, B + C Bath and Shower 30ml
- John Lewis Nail Polish in ‘Seaside’ 10ml (Full Size)
- Neal’s Yard Remedies Frankincense Hydrating Cream 5ml
- Heathcote & Ivory Beau Jardin Hand Cream in ‘Citrus Grove’ 30ml
- Rituals Yogi Glow Indian Rose & Sweet Almond Oil Foaming Shower Gel Sensation 50ml
- Clarins Multi-Active Night Youth Recovery Cream 5ml

Next, I headed to the Chanel counter. I only have one item from Chanel (the Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder) and I adore it so really wanted to try something else. I can’t stop buying lip products lately, so it seemed logical to test out what Chanel had to offer!

DSCF9266DSCF9270

I decided on trying a lipstick from the ‘Rouge Coco Shine’ range, described as ‘hydrating sheer lipshine’, which sounded perfect for me. I tend to opt for sheer formulas, like tinted lip balms, and I always have to go for a hydrating lipstick. I picked the shade ‘55 Romance’, which is a gorgeous medium pink shade.

Here’s what I got in my second goody bag:

DSCF9262

- Ren Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask 5ml
- Philosophy Full of Promise Treatment Serum for Uplifting Days 2ml
- Philosophy Full of Promise Treatment Serum for Volumizing Nights 2ml
- Givenchy Play for Her Eau De Parfum 1ml x3
- Philosophy Hope in a Jar Moisturiser 2ml x2
- Philosophy Hope in a Jar Night Moisturiser 2ml

- Floris London Elite Eau De Toilette 2ml
- Philosophy Purity 3-in-1 Cleanser for Face and Eyes 6ml
- Acqua Di Parma Iris Nobile Eau De Parfum 1.5ml
- Clarins Multi-Active Night Youth Recovery Cream 5ml
- John Lewis Nail Polish in ‘Festival’ 10ml (Full Size)
- Orla Kiely Bergamot Hand Cream 10ml
- Coco Mademoiselle Chanel Eau De Parfum 2ml
- Heathcote & Ivory Beau Jardin Hand Cream in ‘Citrus Grove’ 30ml
- Rituals T’ai Chi White Lotus & Green Tea Foaming Shower Gel Sensation 50ml

Lastly, I popped over to the Clinique counter. I rarely buy anything from Clinique so thought it would be a great opportunity to try one of their famous Chubby Sticks. I have tried one before but it wasn’t in a shade I would have picked myself, so I decided to see what other shades they had!

DSCF9277DSCF9279

I decided to go for the shade ‘14 Curvy Candy’ which is a gorgeous sheer bubble-gum pink, and as soon as I swatched it, I knew I had to take it home with me :)

Here’s what I got in my third goody bag:

DSCF9275

- Ren Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask 5ml
- Givenchy Play for Her Eau De Parfum 1ml x2
- Philosophy Microdelivery Exfoliating Face Wash 6ml
- Philosophy Hope in a Jar Moisturiser 2ml
- Rituals Yogi Flow Indian Rose & Sweet Almond Oil Foaming Shower Gel Sensation 50ml
- Valentina Eau De Parfum 1.5ml
- Philosophy Purity 3-in-1 Cleanser for Face and Eyes 6ml
- Clarins HydraQuench Cream-Mask 5ml
- John Lewis Nail Polish in ‘Pillar Box’ 10ml (Full Size)
- Neal’s Yard Remedies Frankincense Hydrating Cream 5ml
- Givenchy Very Irresistible Eau De Toilette 1ml

- Floris London JF Eau De Toilette 2ml
- Heathcote & Ivory Beau Jardin Hand Cream in ‘Rose & Geranium’ 30ml
- Acqua Di Parma Iris Nobile Sublime Eau De Parfum 1.5ml

So, overall I got some amazing new samples to test out and also got myself two new products to try, as well as an old favourite too :) I will hopefully be doing some reviews on the two lip products too!

Thanks for reading!

Not The Best Experience with Drugstore Lip Crayons: RIMMEL (Lasting Finish Colour Rush), REVLON (Colorburst Lacquer Balm) and BARRY M (Gelly Lips)

 Hey everyone,

Last week I decided to go into Boots and pick up some new bits to try. I’ve seen to many reviews about the Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balms, I knew I wanted to pick one of them up, so thought I would try three different lip crayons and compare the three.

Although I don't like writing negative reviews, none of these lip crayons worked for me, but I have seen them work perfectly well for others!

I decided on the Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm in '105 Demure' which is a nude peachy shade, Rimmel Lasting Finish Colour Rush in '100 Give me a Cuddle' an everyday pink and Barry M's Gelly Lips in 'GSL 5 - Capella' a deeper blue toned pink. I tried to go for shades suitable for everyday wear.

Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm in Demure (£7.99)

In my local Boots, there was only four shades to choose from, I chose Demure because the other three shades were far too vibrant. Demure is a peach-toned nude with a hint of shimmer running through it. On application it is extremely sheer and doesn't really do anything for my lips. It just washed out the natural colour of my lips and other than that all it did was made them look slightly glossy. It seems to settle into every line/crack, my lips aren't visibly lined at all really but in these pictures and in real life it made them look extremely lined and just not very nice.  Also, it does cling to dry patches, not majorly but it definitely seems to highlight any problem areas.

This definitely isn't the lip crayon for me, I just found it quite boring really. Maybe the other shades in this collection are better, but I just didn't like the formula. It wasn't hydrating and didn't feel nice on the lips.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Colour Rush in Give me a Cuddle (£5.99)

I chose this delicate everyday pink thinking it would be perfect for daytime use. On application it is quite a lot darker than I was expecting, it is a really pretty colour actually and is nicely pigmented. But, again, it settles into lines (I didn't know I had) and clings to every bit of dry skin. Prior to applying this lip cryon and the others, I had exfoliated my lips and applied Reve de Miel lip balm, and they didn't look dry at all before I applied this. It doesn't have a smooth finish, and although its hydrating, it does look patchy where it is darker in places from clinging to any patches/lines.

Another lip crayon, that just isn't for me! You can see in the pictures, how it has settled into the lines but it doesn't show just how bad it actually looked in real life. Although it wasn't awful, I know I won't be wearing this in a hurry.

Barry M Gelly Lips in Capella (£4.99)

Last and definitely least, is this one, the Barry M Gelly Lips. As you can see from the picture above it clings to absolutely everything, considering my lips aren't dry at the moment, imagine if they were! It makes them look so cracked and lined and just doesn't have a smooth finish at all. This formula is extremely thick and just reminds me of a cakey concealer, clinging to everything and anything it can! This lip crayon also had an almost chemically scent/taste, not very nice at all.

I decided to include a picture of my natural, bare lips just to show you that they're not dry (at the moment) or insanely lined. Its just the lip crayons that seem to have made them look really gross!

image (2)

So, I'm not impressed at all with any of these lip crayons. I have other lip crayons at home that are perfectly fine, so its definitely just the formula of these particular ones that didn't work for me!

Thanks for reading!

Have you tried any of these lip crayons before?

The Forgotten Haul From The January Sales: Illamasqua

Hey everyone,

So I was looking through my pictures and found some pictures I had taken for a haul post that never made it onto the blog, but since most of the items are still available to buy, I thought it was still worth posting :)

These items are all from the January sale so I managed to get all of these products for only £35! I absolutely love Illamasqua and if you haven’t tried them before, you really, really should. They have a sale every few months that is definitely worth checking out because there are always amazing discounts, but I do also buy some of the products at full price because they are more than worth it.

So, here’s what I got:

DSCF7364DSCF7408DSCF7365DSCF7371DSCF7370

Powder Blush in 'Tremble' £21.50 £7.50

I featured this blush in my March favourites because I've been reaching for it more and more lately. These pale pink blushes really suit my fair complexion and they look so natural. This was my first Illamasqua blush and it definitely won't be my last. Its richly pigmented and blends so easily and lasts for a good amount of time. This is definitely a matte blush, which I like because I don't have many truely matte blushers, they all tend to have a slight shimmer or a more dewy finish.

DSCF7372DSCF7373DSCF7377

Lipstick in 'Magnetism' £18.50 £7.50

I had been dying to try a Illamsqua lipstick, but didn't want to pay £18.50 without knowing what the formula is like (I don't have a counter near me), so I was really happy when I saw this in the sale. It is literally one of my favourite lipsticks ever, I've worn it so much since January. It was perfect for winter, but I will be wearing it year round as it compliments my skintone perfectly. Described as a 'deep, raspberry pink', this is such a gorgeous shade and I own nothing even remotely similar. It glides on beautifully and doesn't cling to any dry patches, lasting for a good few hours without needing a top up. Review coming soon!

DSCF7379DSCF7387

Powder Eyeshadow in 'Wolf' £15.50 £5

Illamasqua's eyeshadows are so buttery soft, intensely pigmented and blend effortlessly..what more could you ask for? This is the perfect shade for your crease or even to line the eyes using an angled brush, if you want a change from black. This is a matte eyeshadow and is described as a 'rich chocolate brown', for £5, this was an absolute steal.

DSCF7392DSCF7396

Concealer in '115' £14.50 £5

This has actually since been discontinued. I use this concealer under my eyes as it is quite a bit lighter than my skintone, so works perfectly to brighten the area. This isn't the best concealer for coverage and I wouldn't use it on blemishes, but it does the job on concealing my dark circles! You get a huge amount for product for your money and if you do have extra pale skin, Illamasqua definitely have you covered. Its a rare occurance when you're as pale as me and you find something that is considerably lighter than your skintone! 115 is for light skin with neutral undertones.

DSCF7401DSCF7406DSCF7405

Intenses Lipglosses in 'Move' and 'Belladona' £16.50 £5

I'm not much of a lipgloss girl, I find them usually too sheer, but these lipglosses definitely do not lack on the pigmentation front! I absolutely love these and want more shades already. 'Move' is described as a deep purple, its more of a mid blue-toned pink and 'Belladona' is described as a deep pink. They aren't sticky in the slightest and just look great on. These have definitely changed my opinions on lipglosses and I will definitely get a review up on these, with lip swatches etc!

I'm so impressed with absolutely everything I bought, roll on the next Illamasqua sale! :)

Thanks for reading!

Have you tried Illamasqua? If so, what are your favourite products?

Birchbox: April 2014

Hey everyone,

So after a hugely disappointing Glossybox this month, my Birchbox arrived and it was 10 times better….as usual! I absolutely love Birchbox, they offer us samples of amazing high end brands, with an excellent range of products in each and every box and it even costs less than Glossybox. This month I’m very impressed with my box, but others got even better products, so although I am slightly jealous of all of you receiving Laura Mercier products and RMK makeup bases, I still love and will use everything I received in my April box!

Birchbox impress me so, so much every month and I never worry that I will receive a bad box, because they’ve all been amazing. So, here’s what I got in this month’s box:

First off, let me apologise about the Chihuahua hair that managed to sneak its way into the pictures, she insists on laying right next to everything I take pictures of for my blog and leaves a little hair trail behind, that I don't notice until I look at the pictures!

DSCF9404
DSCF9413

Color Club Nail Polish in 'Gold Struck'

This is one of four shades exclusive to Birchbox and this month we actually got to pick which shade we would like, if we didn't pick in time they just sent a random shade, but I got the one I had picked and I really liked it because its just so effortless and pretty. Gold struck is a very pale peachy gold colour. The other shades were an off-white, a pale emerald green and a sky blue, all of which have a pearlescent finish. You can buy all four shades together for £15 on the Birchbox website. I'm so pleased with the colour of this and I am going to use it later on!

DSCF9406

Propercorn Sweet Coconut and Vanilla

For our 'lifestyle extra' this month we received a bag of Propercorn popcorn worth 90p. I love popcorn but have always only ever had just regular sweet popcorn, but as soon as I saw this, I knew I'd love it as coconut and vanilla are two of my favourite flavours. Just as I imagined...its amazing, I just wish the bag was bigger as it is completely delicious and I need more, haha. I'm definitely going to buy more of this.

DSCF9414DSCF9424

theBalm Cosmetics How 'Bout Them Apples? Cheek and Lip Cream

This is probably the most adorable mini sample sized makeup product I own. I love the packaging and the sample is the perfect size for popping in your handbag and the fact its a mult-use product makes it even more practical. You just dab this onto your cheeks or lips with your fingertips. The shade I received is 'Pie', which is a vibrant pinky red that I really like and can't wait to test out. All of the shades in the palette are orchard-inspired which I think is a great idea and the palette which retails at £26 includes the shade I received and five others, so quite a good price for six different cheek and lip creams!

DSCF9425

Campos De Ibiza Almendra Body Milk

This is an almond body milk by a brand I have never heard of and after doing some research, its not easily available in the UK. This a 38ml sample and 200ml is currently available on the Birchbox UK website for £16.55. Although this is a rather generous sample, I would have much rather received a 30ml sample of the gorgeous Laura Mercier body butters/body souffles that literally everyone else has received in their boxes, I seem to be the only one with this brand! I have to say it does smell amazing though and its super light, yet so hydrating. It sinks into the skin in seconds, which is something I have to have in a body lotion, because I have no patience waiting for them to dry!

DSCF9430
DSCF9432

Lord & Berry Couture Kohl Kajal Eye Pencil

You can never have too many eyeliners in my opinion. Most days I use a pencil just like this for my waterline, so this will definitely get used up pretty quickly I would imagine! Although this is quite a small sample, its still practical and will be going into my makeup bag so I can use it on the go. This retails at £10 full size, so this is probably about half the size of a regular pencil.

DSCF9434

One Love Organics Skin Savior Waterless Beauty Balm

This is one of those amazing multi-tasker products; you can use it as a cleanser, a moisturiser anywhere on the body, to remove makeup, to tame flyaways and you can even mix it with a mineral foundation for a little heavier coverage. I love love love products like this and think they're such a great idea. As a cleanser, this is super easy to use, you literally just massage some onto your face (no need to dampen the skin) then you wipe off with a flannel. This is a 15ml sample, 39ml retails at £30 on the Birchbox website, but this brand is also available to buy from their own website too, so definitely available in the UK.

So, even though I really wish I received the Laura Mercier product and the RMK makeup base, I'm really, really happy with what I received! The balm sounds amazing and I can't wait to start putting everything to the test. There's definitely going to be some repurchases from this box, I'm sure of it!

Also, if you want to sign up to Birchbox, for £12.95 a month, you can receive one of these amazing boxes too and if you sign up now, you will receive the April box which will definitely include the 'theBalm' cheek and lip cream, the Propercorn and one of the Color Club nail polishes. It will also include three other products, possibly the items I received; the Lord and Berry eyeliner, the One Love Organics multi-use balm or the Campos De Ibiza body milk or one of the other products I've seen a lot of subscribers receiving which was the 'Yes To: Cucumber Facial Wipes'. I've also seen subscribers receiving a huge 250ml full size bottle of TommyGuns Pomegranate and Orange Flower shampoo and Yin Yang skin cleansers or moisturisers, all of which look great too!

If you do decide to sign up, please use this link and if you do, we both receive £5 worth of points to spend in the online shop!

Glossybox: April 2014

Hey everyone,

Today I received my April Glossybox and its probably one of the worst ones I've received so far. I am getting a bit annoyed that Glossybox keep choosing the same brands over and over again, cheap brands or brands no one has ever heard of, whereas Birchbox are offering us high end brands such as Benefit, Laura Mercier, Molton Brown and the Balm. I have received products from ‘Emite’, ‘Mememe Cosmetics’ and ‘Monu’ countless times in previous Glossyboxs in the past year and all three brands are terrible quality and none of their products have been anything less than awful. Surprise surprise, I got another one of each in this month’s box...great!

I don’t want to give up on Glossybox, but they really are making it so difficult for me to stay subscribed, their boxes get worse every month and include mostly cheap brands that I could easily afford to try the full size products myself anyway. I don’t think I have ever gone on to buy a full sized Glossybox product, whereas I have done it countless times with Birchbox.

Anyway, here’s what I got in this month’s box:

DSCF9379DSCF9380DSCF9383

DSCF9385
DSCF9387

Emite Comsetics Lip Brush L312

First up is yet another product from Swedish brand Emite, I have received an eyeshadow and eyelash curlers from this brand in previous Glossyboxes before, both of which were less than impressive. I don't use lip brushes, I prefer to apply directly from the tube. This brush is very soft and flexible, but its definitely not worth its £17 price tag and isn't actually available on the Emite website.

DSCF9390

Mememe Cosmetics Beat the Blues Highlighter in 'Pearl Pink'

This is another brand I have been far from impressed with after receiving an eyeshadow and a cheek and lip tint in past Glossyboxes. I also ordered some products from Mememe last year and I found most of the items I ordered to be very poor in quality. So, I was definitely not excited when I first saw this in my box. After swatching it on my hand, its definitely not as bad as I was expecting it to be after my previous experiences with Mememe products! It is very sheer and almost disappears once blended in, but it brightens the skin and gives a very subtle radiance. This is full size and retails at £5.50.

DSCF9391

MONU Spa Warming Ginger Massage and Body Oil

This is my third Monu product that I have received in a Glossybox, just like Mememe and Emite. I wish Glossybox would be a bit more imaginative and include a better variety of brands, rather than keep returning to the same boring/low quality brands over and over again. I wouldn't mind if they featured the same brands, if the products were half decent! I received a moisturiser and a primer from Monu in previous Glossyboxes and I have to say, they are hands down two of the worst products I have ever tried. I would never get excited about a receiving a massage oil in a beauty box, and considering its made by one of the worst brands I have ever tried, I probably won't even open it. This sample is 30ml and full sized (100ml) retails at £25.

DSCF9395

Tresemme Instant Refresh Cleansing Dry Shampoo

Probably the only thing I will use in this box...a dry shampoo, not exactly exciting! This is another brand I have previously received in a Glossybox, but a brand that I and many others love, so I'm not complaining. This is 100ml and full size (200ml) retails at £4.99. I do use dry shampoos quite a lot and tend to always just pick up my trusty Batiste, so trying a new brand will be a nice change :)

DSCF9398DSCF9397

Unica Cosmetics Radiance Plus

Award for the tiniest skincare sample goes to...Unica Cosmetics! Probably enough for a full face application and a half, considering 50ml only retails at £12.95, you'd think we could have gotten a slightly larger sample. This is an intensive anti-aging face cream, but there's definitely not enough in this tiny pot to determine whether this is the face cream for me. This is 100% natural, which would be perfect for some people, but its not something I am too bothered about.

So, nothing impressive in this Glossybox in my opinion I'm sorry to say. I am going to stay subscribed because I'm really hoping they turn things around!

Thanks for reading!
